You are not legally allowed to drive for 24 hours after an anaesthetic.
It is vital that you have a responsible adult accompany you home and stay with you for the first 24 hours following surgery. It is also advised that you stay within one hour's journey of the Adelaide Day Surgery.
If either of these is not possible, please discuss alternatives with your Surgeon and notify our nursing staff of your arrangements.
Please understand that cancellation of your procedure may result if you do not have these arrangements in place.
It is Adelaide Day surgery's policy that all patients are discharged from the facility into the care and responsiblity of their escort or carer.
Post-operative care
You will be given written instructions about your post operative care as required by your surgeon. These instructions will be given to you in the presence of your adult caregiver, who will be asked to sign a declaration indicating that the information is clearly given and understood.
You will also be given any specific medications your doctor has prescribed. Please be aware that these medications incur an additional fee. A separate invoice will be included with the medications, which may be paid on the day at Adelaide Day Surgery or as per the instructions on the invoice. Safety Net cardholders are exempt from payment.
